March Madness can be such a thrilling experience and what everyone loves to do is enter their office bracket contest. You usually only need a few dollars to enter but with several hundred entries their can be some serious money to win. Just like any other form of sports betting you must study and follow some strict rules to give yourself the best opportunity to win this year.

The absolute first rule is to just close your eyes and pencil in the #1 seeds to the sweet 16. Never has a top seed lost in the first round and don't try to pick the first one. Finding upsets is always a source of pride when filling out your brackets but just remember to not get too carried away. Picking a big upset in the first round is great but don't start putting a #12 seed in the sweet 16 just to brag to your buddies that you put yourself out on the limb.

The most common upsets that your really can count on every year is the #12 seed pulling off at least one upset but even two in many years. The #5 seed are always ripe for big upsets and go ahead and pick at least one in your bracket this year.

Selecting the Final Four teams is always the most important factor in who wins the Bracket Contest. Remember most contests are weighted more heavily as the tournament progresses. One advice is to pick your final four teams and work backwards. Besides don't choose all the #1 seeds as on average only two top seeds make it to the final four each each.

An added trend that can not be overlooked is that of the Final Four seeds 93% of them have been #1-#4 seeds. But this doesn't mean you can't pick someone outside of the top seeds but if you are wrong just realize it usually means you have made a donation to the contest winner.

Last one of the most overlooked tips is don't get too carried away with a hot team in recent games. Many teams get hot in a conference tournament and can win 4 games in 4 days. Winning a conference tournament in fact has only led to an NCAA Championship 25 percent of the time.
